Domaine Jean-Pierre Berthenet
Les Platières
Montagny
Premier Cru
The appellation of Montagny is located in the region of Burgundy called the Côte Chalonnaise (literally “hillside of Chalon”, a local large town) that is an excellent source of affordable dry white burgundy wine, always made entirely from chardonnay. The Berthenet property is located in Montagny les Buxy, a typical burgundian village surrounded by its amphitheatre of vines. In fact the Berthenet family has been cultivating vines for almost 400 years. In 2001, Jean-Pierre decided to cease selling his grapes to the cooperative and now makes and sells his own wine and is a member of the “family” of Independent Winemakers of France. All the grapes are pressed using a pneumatic press and the wines vinified in a modern facility with temperature regulated stainless steel vats, all to assure the quality and freshness of his wines. Les Platières is one of the three separate “crus” or specific vineyard bottlings of the domaine and offers depth and complexity that is at once refreshing and clean, and complex and long in the finish. This is serious Montagny wine and an affordable alternative to its expensive cousins to the north in the Côte de Beaune.
