Château de Lisennes is a family property of 50 hectares (~125 acres)
located at the "gates" of the city of Bordeaux. The property has been
in existence since 1758 and was acquired by the Soubie Family in 1938. Four
generations of the Soubie family have been caring for the vineyards and producing
wine since then. Jean-Luc Soubie currently runs the operation together with
his father who is also the mayor of their village, Tresses. The clay and limestone
soils of their vineyards are planted equally with Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon
and Cabernet Franc with an average vine age of 30 years.
The Bordeaux Supérieur is made from Cabernet Franc (15%), Cabernet Sauvignon
(45%) and Merlot (40%) that gives this wine a style, which more resembles the
wines from the Médoc than its neighbors. The wine is aged for 12 months
in barrels that have been used once for wine ageing (barrels of one wine in
local parlance) before bottling and subsequent sale.
This is a well-made and well-balanced wine with intense ruby color. The aromas
are dominated by spice and blackberry. The wine is medium bodied with a ripe
but solid tannic structure that shows a good fruit and acidity balance making
this a good table wine. A wine for current consumption that can improve and
hold for the next 2 to 3 years.
Serve with both white and red meats as well as seasoned poultry dishes such
as coq au vin or grilled chicken.
