Cahors wine is known throughout history as a "black wine"
due to the intense color derived from the Malbec grape (also
known as the Auxerrois or Cot), which is the premier grape,
used in the region. Used in the past by the Bordelais to fortify
the color and strength of their wines, Cahors is among the oldest
of the vineyard regions in France. The wines are known for rich
fruit and flavor extraction furthering its reputation as a robust
and rustic wine. No surprise considering that the cuisine of
the region is known for duck, lamb, and goose and of course,
foie gras.
This selection offers rich flavor and lots of jammy fruit and extract and then
balances all the wines components to offer an extra-ordinary example of
Cahors wine. Made in a traditional manner, the wine is 100% Malbec and aged
in oak barrels for 12 - 14 months.
Château la Caminade then adds its aesthetic sense of elegance and finesse
to the vinification of this huge wine to offer a selection from Cahors that
provides a balance of strength and finesse rarely seen in these wines.
The Resses family of Château La Caminade has been instrumental since
the 50s in the rebirth of Cahors as a major wine-producing region and
has maintained their dedication to producing authentic Cahors wine.
This is a good selection for your wine list and recommended to accompany foods
of rich flavor and texture such as roasted meats or well-herbed offerings like
ragouts, stews and other highly seasoned dishes.
