This property is among the important producers in the appellation of Premières Côtes de Blaye. Jean-Luc and Catherine Hubert produce a rich red wine using organic farming methods, certified by Ecocert, and are in the process of converting their vineyards to biodynamic agriculture, as they have already done at the property Château La Grolet in the Côtes de Bourg.
Chateau Peybonhomme-Les-Tours Premières Côtes de Blaye red, their flagship wine, stems from careful planting of 4 grape varieties: Merlot 75%, Cabernet-sauvignon 10%, Cabernet-franc 8% and Malbec 2%, in the commune of Cars near Blaye, on hillside plots covering 60 hectares overlooking the Gironde Estuary. Successive plowing of the clay-rich soil with the highly chalky subsoil characteristic of Peybonhomme enables the vines to be deeply rooted so as to express their exceptional terroir, and the yields are moderate to provide a concentration of flavors in the fruit. This union of planting and soil defines the unique nature of this wine. After very gentle maceration and fermentation achieved with native yeasts, the wine is aged in barrels while preserving the original fruit aromas and flavors. The dominance of red fruits combined with spicy notes, and a highly nuanced aromatic palette makes this wine enjoyable now, and the ripe tannins, and refreshing gentle acidity of the wine ensures harmonious evolution over time.
