Château Lafargue

Pessac - Leognan

Created within the last 10 years, the appellation of Pessac-Leognan has a unique terroir in the larger appellation of Graves, from whence it came. Pessac-Leognan borders on the city of Bordeaux and possesses a soil more favorable to Cabernet Sauvignon than the rest of Graves, and is home to all of the Cru Classé Graves wines such as Haut-Brion and La Tour Martillac. This appellation is known for both red and white wines.

Château Lafargue is located in the village of Martillac and has 18 hectares planted to red grapes and 2 hectares planted to white grapes, on a gravel soil underlain by gravelly clay-limestone subsoil. Jean-Pierre Leymarie produces both red and white wines that are rich and full flavored and truly represent their terroir.

Château Lafargue rouge is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (40%), Cabernet franc (15%), Merlot (40%), Malbec (2.5%) and Petit Verdot (2.5%). The wine is vinified in stainless steel with temperature regulation and aged one year in French oak barrels with about 25% new oak every year. The red offers depth and complexity in both aromas and flavor and is deeply colored. The palate is filled with black fruit flavors livened up with pleasing acidity and charming bright-ness that continues on into the finish.

In keeping with the mission of Grape News Importing, this wine represents an excellent value and a wine to follow in years to come. photos
