Domaine Charles Baur

Vin d'Alsace
Pinot Blanc
Wine at the Baur vineyards has been made by many generations of the Baur family. Armand Baur took over the property from his father who began selling the property's own wine in bottles beginning in 1946. Today Armand Baur produces wine from 12 hectares (~30 acres) of vines of which 3 hectares are in the Grand Cru Eichberg and Pfersigberg. The property is located in the village of Eguisheim, which is just west of the city of Colmar, in the southern portion of Alsace, also called the Haut-Rhin or upper Rhine river valley. The terroir is composed mainly of clay and old limestone and marl which give the wines of Domain Baur a rich creaminess and depth of flavor as well as an interesting complexity in both the aromas and flavors.

All the fruit is harvested by hand and vinified on the property. The vinification and maturation is done half in large ancient oak casks (foudres) and the balance in stainless steel. Each parcel on their property is vinified separately to allow the unique expression of each terroir. The fermentation is carefully temperature controlled to guarantee the optimal character and aromatic expression of each blend, or cuvée.

The Pinot Blanc of Domaine Baur is a classic example of this Alsatian cépage. It is light with a crisp acidity and has a soft, clean and fruity impression on the palate.

It is an excellent aperitif and a good companion to light hors d'oeuvres.
