This
is a small, family-owned property located in the foothills of
the Vosges Mountains, just east of Colmar in the little burg
of Katzenthal. They produce wine from Riesling, Tokay Pinot
Gris and Gewurztraminer grapes on their terroir of granite-based
soils. The wines in general are crisp, clean, fruity and fragrant,
and very well balanced with slightly lower alcohol levels (12-13%)
than their more southerly neighbors. As most Alsatian vignerons,
they produce a number of Grand Cru wines. The Bernhards produce
theirs from the Wineck Schlossberg and Mambourg appellations.
Intense nose of floral, spice and fruit that is clean, clear
and fresh. Classic aromas of lychee dominate the bouquet with
underlying notes of pears & apricots. The flavors are true
to the bouquet and fill the mouth with a fruity yet dry richness
that can complement many of the complex flavors found in Asian
or "fusion" based cuisine. |
