The Berthenet property is located in Montagny les Buxy, a typical burgundian village surrounded by its amphitheatre of vines. In fact the Berthenet family has been cultivating vines for almost 400 years. In 2001, Jean-Pierre decided to cease selling his grapes to the cooperative and now makes and sells his own wine and is a member of the “family” of Independent Winemakers of France. All the grapes are pressed using a pneumatic press and the wines vinified in a modern facility with temperature regulated stainless steel vats, all to assure the quality and freshness of his wines.
A Crémant is a sparkling wine made in the same fashion as champagne. As the designation champagne is reserved for sparkling wines made in the region of the same name, a sparkling wine made in Burgundy (or any other region for that matter) is typically called a Crémant. True to the nature of the region, this wine is made entirely from chardonnay. It is fresh and lively with a mouthful of ripe fruit.
Crémant are great values in sparkling wines and are affordable on a more regular basis than their higher priced cousins from champagne. This is a great way to impress your guests without exceeding the budget. Very festive – Cheers!
