Madiran is an appellation in the southwestern Gascony region of France, at the foothills of the Pyrénées Mountains. This is a region of rich culture, culinary traditions and, of course, great wines. The white wines of this region are called Pacherenc du Vic Bilh, which translates to Pacherenc of the Old Hills. Pacherenc wines are made from as many as three different grapes, Gros Manseng, Petit Manseng, and Petit Courbu and are made in both dry and late harvest styles.
Cuvée Ericka is Jean-Marc Laffitte’s Pacherenc sec or dry wine. The wine is made from 70% Gros Manseng and 30% Petit Manseng and is harvested at the end of October, using only the clusters that have no mold or rot. This assures the freshest fruit flavors. The grapes are macerated for 12 hours before pressing and them fermented and aged in new oak barrels, on the lees.
The color of this Pacherenc wine is of a pale straw, brilliant and clear. The bouquet shows notes of vanilla, toast and is very fruity showing lemon and pineapple. The taste follows well from the bouquet with an elegant balance of fruit and acidity and a depth of flavor that makes this wine a good companion fish, shellfish, and white meats and sauces.
This wine will hold for quite a number of years if it is stored properly.
