Château de Tiregand

Pécharmant

Grown on the south-facing hills just a few kilometers from the city of Bergerac, the wines of Pécharmant are rich and medium to full-bodied red wines with lots of fruit and enough structure to stand up to the richest foods, and enough staying power to improve in the bottle for years to come.

The family of Saint-Exupéry has been making wines at Château de Tiregand for well over 300 years and some of the buildings used for aging the wine in the oak barrels date back as far as the 1300s'.

You might be more familiar with this family than you think as this is the same family to whom belongs the famous French author, Antoine de Saint-Exupéry who is best known in this country for the children's (and adult's) book, The Little Prince.

Made from a cépage of 45% Merlot, 35% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Cabernet Franc and 5% Malbec, the 1998 is a rich and accessible wine with lots of forward fruit. The wine was aged 12 months in oak (10% new) and offers extract, flavor and balance rarely seen in wines of this price range.

The finished wine is then bottled in their own system under an inert gas (nitrogen) further insuring its continuing freshness.
